Review: Gullu and Major (Ishaan and Siddhant Chaturvedi), two single boys living together, aspire to become professional ghostbusters. With the help of friendly ghost Ragini (Katrina Kaif), they somewhat succeed. However, their journey hits a roadblock when they get drawn into Ragini's bigger plan to save her lover from the clutches of evil baby Aatmaram (Jackie Shroff)Mirzapur director Gurmmeet Singh’s PhoneBhoot , starring KatrinaKaif, Sidhant Chaturvedi and Ishaan Khatter, is an eclectic, out-of-the-box comedyLittle different from regular horror comedy. Pop Culture references are hilarious. The duo of SiddhantChaturvedi and ishaan khatter.
Written by Ravi Shankaran and Jasvinder Singh Bath, Gurmmeet Singh’s Phone Bhoot is an eclectic out-of-the-box comedy. It's clear from the proceedings that the writers and director have spent a significant amount of time visualizing every minute of the film, so it doesn't lose its breath even halfway through its run.
The characters take their situation and themselves very seriously. This paves the way for humor that is neatly scripted, shameless and character driven. References to old and some relatively new Hindi films and eccentric horror films of past decades (those of the Ramsay brothers) are seamlessly integrated into the narrative. The script is littered with dialogues that will bring you into the crazy world of this movie and will make you laugh at most parts.
However, the film lags in terms of pace in the first half until Jackie Shroff enters the mix. This changes the setting of the film for the better, but it also makes the eventual conflict in the second half somewhat predictable. There are small but unnoticeable cracks in several places. The film also takes certain creative liberties that we should avoid entirely and that would make the narrative even more engaging and entertaining.
Ishaan, Katrina and Siddhant have great camaraderie as the ghost busting trio. The boys put on a confident performance. This is a modern day version of Amar-Prem who don't care about each other's screen time or performance. They vibrate with each other which is nice. The director also ensured that a balance between screen time and overall presentation was maintained throughout the run.
Katrina Kaif is beautiful to look at. She takes care to ensure that her presence does not overwhelm the narrative; she establishes her bro-code with the boys and delivers a casual performance, playing to her strengths. Jackie Shroff is the father of this mixture. It is the setimaar element of this comedy without which the humor quotient of the film would not be where it is.
